Graphic Score Remix
2021-ongoing
The work combines graphic score and music notation, representing consensual visual and standard music composing. The graphic score will allow the user to play with the visual combinations or change the agreed representation. For Simulasi #1, I simulate the producing sound process using the graphic score method and approach on the internet remix culture. I have categorized the symbols to annotate the variety of sound sources and to map the visual landscape of my composition later. Further, I’d like to experiment with whether the method can create a new possibility of composing and reading the sound.
Artist Statement
My work focuses on exploration and findings ranging from sound, body, visual experimentation, and collaborative work across disciplines. When we talk about sound, we can see how the duration, appearance, motion, light, and events work in composition. Sound contains a diversity of complex elements, which are particularly apparent in the variety of sound discourses in Indonesia due to the different cultures and traditions on each island.
I am interested in revisiting the relationship between the management of sound works in a certain area and how sound has been experimented with in graphic score practices. In the graphic score, we can play with the visual combination or change the notes in the general notation by using symbols or visuals that have been agreed upon.
